MiniWORLD

Project end date 18th June

Independent study

On Friday 1st March Me and Lynnesha came in to discuss about our project to make sure we had a rough idea on what want and need to do looking up on YouTube to see if there are any techniques that we could learn and apply to the game such as a technique called cloth simulation.

Rationale

For the past 7 units I have created projects that require skills and techniques such as animating, making models, texturing and creating sound and music I have learned these new skills and improved on them throughout the the 7 units and I plan on applying them to my unit 8 project to try and make a detailed game because this unit is longer than all the other projects it should be enough time to create a more complex game than all my previous ones. I have a much better understanding from when I started the course so the improvement I have made should show in this unit compared to my first game I created.

Project Concept

At this point in time, Lynnesha and myself plan on creating a game that has something to do with being in a big environment where normal everyday things are scaled up in size and we’re thinking something along the lines of Jack and the beanstalk, films like A Bugs Life, Ratatouille which also has a game and Alice in Wonderland which all has some form of size and scale for inspiration which can help us think of things to put in the game.

My aims are to use the skills and technique that I have learned and apply it to this game to ensure I create a detailed game, at the moment I am working in a group so we will split the task between us and I expect adjustments and changes to be made throughout this project to fit the timescale so that we will be able to create and complete this game.

An example of what I want to achieve is demonstrated in a specific level in Kingdom Hearts 3.

Evaluation

Because I’m working in a group we will each have our own ideas so it will be important to adjust our ideas so both of us in the group may come to an agreement so we can keep focus on the project and complete it instead of discussing which idea is better it is also crucial that we keep track of everything we do by posting on our blogs and updating it when we make changes and getting others to play our game and hear their opinions.

Project action plan and timetable

We only have 24 days to complete this project, 4 days on pre-production, 14 days on production and 6 days on post-production the project starts on the 4th March and ends on the 18th of June so the tasks that we need to do for our project should be done in a set amount of time and we shouldn’t spend too much time on one thing so that is why we have created a timetable to help keep track of what we need to do and to see if we can complete it in the given time frame and we also need to make sure that our ambitions aren’t too high or too low if our ambitions are too high we may not be able to complete the project in the given time and if it’s too low we may have to think of more ideas to add to our project. We will also have to take demo day, play day and tutor/peer feedback into consideration and how much time will be spent on research/solving problems, independent study and when we will update our blogs which the timetable will help us with.
