Unit 11 Personal Statement

Personal Statement

My name is Jardie Myrie, I’ve always loved and enjoyed playing video games. My hobby of playing games has also inspired me to get a career that involves games. Throughout my life I have always participated in playing games and figuring out how to create a gaming programme. I am one hundred percent sure that doing games design is the career path I want to follow. While I was attending secondary school and I was given the option to choose courses. I chose a course that involved computing such as, ICT, Computer Science and Media Studies although they were not entirely based on games they did have elements that could be used in making a game or used to make games such as, Photoshop and a Programming application like python in my computer science class I did also use a bit of Kodu and scratch.
When I attended The Nottingham College for the first time I applied for a level 2 business ICT Course, which I developed many transferable skills and knowledge of different programmes such as Excel, Word document and understanding how to present a good PowerPoint by using different techniques. The following year I enrolled on to a level 3 course which is Games Design when I joined the course I was genuinely excited to start and when I began in the first few weeks I already knew it was going to be really interesting and all the practical work I currently do is mind blowing and fantastic. Joining the course has definitely made me think that a career in game design is a possibility for me and if I work hard it could become a reality, although the course is quite challenging at times because of the amount of things you learn, it is really fun and there are lots of ways you can do things so you’re never really wrong with how you make a game. This course has also helped me improve my problem solving, confidence, creativity, communication skills, ability to work in a team and to speak publicly. On the game design course the software I used are Unreal engine, 3ds Max and Photoshop learning new things on software I never used before this gave me skills to use such as modelling, texturing and animation. I believe that going to your university and doing a game course will be a fantastic option for me because I want a future in games design.
Outside of college I play quite a lot of games my favourite games at the moment being Overwatch, GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Spider-Man for Ps4, I really enjoy going to the cinemas my favourite movies to watch are marvel movies as I am also a fan of Marvel other movies I’ve watched and enjoyed are Godzilla king of the monsters, Joker and It chapter 2. I’ve also gone on two trips throughout my time in college in my first year at college I went on a NCS trip with other students to a camping site for 4 days and took part in activities and we participated in tasks once we got home such as raising money for a homeless charity and buying food for the homeless this took places over the course of a few weeks, me and other student also got together in groups talking about society, social problems and about ourselves and when we completed it we got a certificates that were signed by the Prime minister this was quite a big achievement for me as this helped me to get out of my comfort zone and meet new people and also express myself and help others. The other trip took place in my second year of college where I went to a Comic Con event in London which was extremely fun because this event really relates to me as it is an event that embraces pop culture things such as games, comics, Tv shows, movies, art and collectable items from all genres and franchises, this trip also helped me meet new people and see a lot of things that I wouldn’t see on a daily bases such as people dressing as different characters, it was my first time going to a Comic Con event and hopefully it won’t be my last as I really enjoyed it and would love to go again.
